JFD's NRC movement continues in Bishnupur

Bishnupur, September 04 2026: While welcoming the State Assembly resolution to update the National Register of Citizens, the NRC Demand Committee Moirang Subdivision has reiterated that the base-year for the exercise must be 1951 .

Addressing media persons at Moirang Khoiru Leikai Mandap today, the committee's convenor Moirangthem Leima said the JFD's public movement for updating the NRC will continue until concrete steps are taken by the Government to initiate the exercise.

She said NRC Demand Committees of subdivisions in Bishnupur have approached all of the MLAs in the region and submitted medmoranda.

While most of the meetings with the MLAs were encouraging, the committees were disappointed with the response of MLA Tongbram Robindro, she said.

As the next step, the committees have started approaching ex-MLAs, she said.

Ex-MLA Mairembam Prithviraj has responded positively in support of the NRC and has given valuable suggestions to the committees, she added.
