Body formed to protect Meeteis

Imphal, July 09 2022:
A joint meeting of 18 clubs of different localities in Imphal West district held on July 3 led to the formation of a new organisation christened as Meitei Leisha Kanba Lup (MLKL) with the main objective to work for constitutional safeguard of the Meetei community.
In a statement issued by the newly formed organisation, the joint meeting elected convenor of Mongshangei Kanba Apunba Lup Akoijam Ibomcha as its convenor, one representative each of all the 18 clubs as co-convenors, SUN Club president Soraisam Surendra Chenglei as spokesperson and YOCCML Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai representative Heisnam Devakumar as publicity in-charge.
The statement informed that the objective of the organisation is to.
protect the land of Meeteis by enforcing ban on sale of land to people of other communities and to press the government for constitutional safeguard.
Area under the jurisdiction of the new organisation will be Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai, Lamdeng, Konjeng Leikai, Heinoukhongnembi, Thokchom Leikai, Lourembam Leikai, Haobam Marak Chingtham Leikai, Haobam Marak Irom Leikai, Heirangoithong, Mongshangei, Langthabal Nambul Mapal, Ghari, Changangei, Sagolband Khamnam Leirak and Hiyangthang.
The organisation will coordinate with other local clubs in the valley area to uphold its objective, the statement said, while adding that it will submit rejoinders to the departments concerned of the state government and organise awareness activities in different parts of the state.
