MAHUD minister calls for using canvas bags

MAHUD minister Yumnam Khemchand has Stated that using canvas bags in place of plastic carry ones can make a huge contribution towards protection of the environment and achieving the goal of making Manipur a green state.
Speaking prior to flagging off riders of RE 650 Club Manipur to Last Resort, Churachandpur for a charity musical event 'The Heaven 2.0' organised in aid of Assam flood victims on Saturday at Kangla Western gate here, minister Khemchand pointed out that sale and use of single use plastics have been restricted in the state with effect from July 1 and the public should support initiative of the government 'to check environmental pollution.
Several local self-help groups have started making canvas bags from used clothes bought at low prices, he noted, while stating that similar acts should be taken up from all fronts.
While maintaining that everyone is familiar with the harmful effects of using plastics, he stressed the need to proper disposal of used plastic items.
Further stating that failure to understand the difference between drain and dustbin has stymied the effort being made to make Manipur green, Khemchand reiterated that waste products should be put in dustbins and not into the drains.
Meanwhile, the riders planted tree saplings after reaching the event venue.
