Imphal, July 09 2022:
Four farmers' organisations of Khoijuman village in Bishnupur, on Saturday wrote to Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL), Namrup, Assam, requesting it to supply fertilizers at affordable prices to farmers.
The farmers' bodies in their letter drew the attention of the BVFCL to the plight of cultivators due to scarcity of fertilizer and its unavailability at fair price.
"We are the inhabitants of Khoijuman and Kwasiphai villages, Bishnupur district, Manipur where both kharif and rabi crops are cultivated and produced round the year.
We face acute difficulties when fertilizers are not within our reach in right time and deemed to be at loss", the letter said.
It then asked for making fertilizer available at reasonable rate round the year through erstwhile conventional chains of retailers to make it easier access for farmers, adding that the farmers are facing problems due to bottlenecks of the present system and consequent high price in procuring fertilizer from the brokering agents.
The letter addressed to the chairman & MD of BVFCL was sent by Farmer Association for Inhesion Reformation, Khoijuman; Khoijuman Mamang Farmer Organisation; Farmers Development Organisation, Khoijuman; and Khoijuman Vegetable Farmers Organisation.
