IMFL, DIC liquor worth Rs 23 lac destroyed

Around Rs 23 lakh worth of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), beer and Distilled Illicit Country (DIC) liquor were disposed at Excise Headquarters, Lamphelpat here on Saturday.
The destroyed liquor included 3011.44 litres of IMFL, 256.1 litres of beer and 4427.5 litres of DIC, whose monetary value amounted to Rs 23,26,444.The liquor seized under Section 69 of Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991, were taken out from the storage room of Excise HQ and destroyed early Saturday morning.
In this regard, Superintendent of Excise Th Bruce Lee Khuman said that this is the third time that seized liquor have been destroyed, following similar exercise in February and May this year.
The liquor was destroyed as per the order of Commissioner of Excise after the storage room of Excise HQ had no more space to store the liquor seized by Excise and state police.
He then conveyed that most of the destroyed liquor was seized from Keithelmanbi area and the rest from Imphal East, Mayang Imphal and Porompat areas.
On the other hand, the superintendent disclosed that the Department has around 700 sanctioned posts but the present strength is only 120.Thus, he appealed to the state government to increase the staff strength by
about 50 per cent.
