Imphal, May 18 2022:
Water levels of almost all major rivers flowing through Manipur valley have reached flood level while many places have been flooded.
According to information received from the Water Resources Department's Flood Control Room, a few rivers have been flowing over their embankments at some places even though there is no report of breaching of river banks as yet.
Imphal River was seen overflowing its embankments at Lairikyengbam Leikai and Wangoi Laiphrakpam.
Seepage of water was detected at some points along the course of Imphal River at Kyamgei Mamang Leikai, Singjamei Oinam Thingel etc.
Timely intervention by local people and authorities prevented the seepage from causing any major problem.
Nambul River was also overflowing at Samushang Shantipur.

On account of the rising water level of Nambul River, Sagolband Thangapat Mapal, Salam Leikai and Moirang Leirak have been inundated.
The Cheirap Court complex too has been flooded.
Meanwhile, reinforcement of the vulnerable section of Imphal River embankment has started at Singjamei Oinam Thingel.
As the eastern embankment of Imphal River sank partially at Kshetri Leikai and Pebiya Pandit Leikai, local people used bamboo poles and earth to restore and strengthen the embankment.
Considering the vulnerability of these sections, the river bank road which passes through these sections have been closed, thereby causing severe inconveniences to movement of local people.
Some people of Pebiya Pandit Leikai said that the retaining wall built along the course of Imphal River sank a long time back at the same point where the embankment sank today.
However, neither the local MLA nor any other authority concerned took up any measure to strengthen the vulnerable section, they decried.
Large areas of Keibi and Lamlai including schools and paddy fields have been submerged.
On the other hand, many farmers who are rearing fishes and growing vegetables at Lilong Arapti and other places have been pushed to a miserable situation as their farms have been completely flooded.
As the embankments of Iril River are also in bad shape at different points within Kshetrigao Assembly constituency, local MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan inspected the same spots.
The MLA has also started strengthening these sections by putting in more earth apart from distributing relief materials to the needy people.
Many homesteads of Kshetrigao AC have also been inundated.
