Imphal, May 18 2022:
The Indigenous People's Association of Kangleipak (IPAK) has claimed that Government doctors in Manipur seem to be showing more interest in private practice at the cost of public health.
In a statement, IPAK claimed that the organisation is saddened by the death of one patient at Iboyaima Hospital & Research Centre during a key hole surgery allegedly conducted by a JNIMS doctor.
Asking how the Government doctor is being employed at a private institution and whether the Health Directorate is aware of it, IPAK asked if the majority of the Government doctors in Manipur are more interested in working at private healthcare institutions.
Claiming that many poor patients couldn't get timely treatment at Government hospitals due to alleged tardiness of some of the doctors there, IPAK urged all Government doctors to stop practising at private institutions in the larger interest of the poor people who couldn't afford expensive healthcare system.
IPAK further stated that Government doctors working at multiple institutions are only occupying the seats of the medical practitioners who can work more dedicatedly.
Saying that IPAK has evidence of many Government doctors being employed at private institutes, the association appealed to all proprietors of private hospitals to clarify whether they employ Government doctors at their respective institutions as soon as possible.
IPAK will furnish the details of all doctors working at multiple institutes if the demands are not entertained, it added.
