Kangpokpi, May 18 2022:
Twilang area in Kangpokpi continues to witness multiple landslides and earth cracks, posing serious threats to the public.
According to the Joint Monitoring Development Committee (JMDC) of the IT Road, a fresh landslide reoccurred at Gelnal village last night shortly after the debris of the previous one was cleared.
The committee cleared the remnants of the landslide at Govajang as many vehicles coming from Tamei side were stranded there.
The incessant rainfall, however, continues to create havoc at Chalwa village as water level in many of the streams has risen.
Reportedly, the excess water has also started entering the residential areas at Chalwa village, compelling many to take shelter elsewhere.
The premonsoon downpour has also been disrupting the activities of the JMDC in between Govajang and T Vaichong sub divisional headquarters and as such remnants of the landslides are still piled up at different locations.
As per JMDC, clearance of landslides could resume in a day or two depending on the weather condition and advised the people to take utmost precaution while travelling between Govajang and T Vaichong sub divisional headquarters.
It also informed that the fuel supply for clearing the landslide is almost out of stock and there is a shortage of funds for the work.
Earth cracks have started developing along Thonglang-Senapati road at Thonglang Akutpa area and the area has been cut off from the rest of the State.
