Cabinet approves state plastic, tourism policies

In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's objective to phase out single-use plastic by July, 2022, the state cabinet on Wednesday approved the Manipur Plastic Policy, 2022, which seeks to tackle multi-faceted plastic pollution by regulating its usage.
The cabinet meet chaired chief minister N Biren and attended by all the 11 council of ministers also gave approval to the Manipur Tourism Policy, 2022 considering the changing scenario of tourism industry in the world and draw more visitors to the state.
The policy seeks to harness tourism potential of the state and to create employment and livelihood opportunities, to encourage investment and increase revenue generation.
Briefing media persons, forest and environment minister Thongam Biswajit said the state cabinet adopted Manipur Plastic Policy, 2022 in wake of PM Modi's announcement to ban single use plastic effective from July 31 this year.
While stating that relevant rules for the policy will be framed soon, he cautioned that any person found deal ing in or using plastic items in contravention of the directive as specified in the policy will face imprisonment up to five years with a fine extendable up to Rs 1 lakh.
The cabinet also decided to hold Manipur Civil Services Combined Examination, 2022 to fill up 82 posts which were scrapped following a court case as well as additional 323 posts, he said while adding that framing of syllabus for the competitive examination to be conducted through Manipur Public Service Commission has also been approved.
The cabinet reviewed progress of the 100 Days programme and resolved to take up immediate steps to double the width of 79 roads including 57 in greater Imphal area, 10 in other district headquarters in the valley areas and 12 in headquarters of hill districts, Biswajit informed.
The state cabinet also approved regularisation of employees appointed for Manipur Bhavan at Kolkata and Guwahati as also increment of their salaries.
Extending the Hills Leaders Day and Meeyamgi Numit held at CM secretariat, the cabinet decided to re-launch both to bring government services at the doorstep of the public.
Meanwhile, regarding the Start up Idea Covid Scheme, the cabinet approved to provide 100 per cent subsidy of Rs 30,000 as first instalment seed money to support certain categories of applicants, hand over infrastructures at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex to state PWD to look after the infrastructures and its maintenance.
In view of inability to look after sports activities in newly created districts namely Kakching, Tengnoupal, Pherzawl, Kamjong, Noney and Kangpokpi due to non-appointment of YAS officers, the state cabinet approved creation of the same posts for these new districts, he said.
