Village Health and Sanitation Day launched

Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo Singh along with Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh launched Village Health, Sanitation & Nutrition Day at Sanjenbam Khunou Community Hall, Imphal East, today.
The launching programme was organized by National Health Mission, Manipur under the 100 Days Action Plan of the State Government.
At the event, H Dingo Singh said that the programme is to be taken up by the Health Department but the Social Welfare Department also has a big role to play as it is interrelated.
The most important part of the programme is to create awareness among the villagers on ways to remain healthy from birth till death, the Minister said appealing to all to take the benefits of the facilities being provided at the venue of the function.
Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh, on the other hand, stated that the future generation will be greatly affected if the schemes being taken up by the Government don't reach the masses.
Nutrition is a much needed source of a healthy life and one needs to know when and how to consume nutritional diets, he said and urged the people to take care of health as their primary duty.
Further, he highlighted the importance of ASHA and Anganwadi workers in creating awareness and educating the people in rural areas about a healthy lifestyle.
The Minister also said that the Government is considering developing the primary health care system at a grassroots level and if needed cooperation will be sought from various departments.
Additional Chief Secretary V Vumlunmang also attended the programme.
He said that the Village Health Sanitation & Nutrition Day is an important programme which needs to be organized regularly so as to spread awareness and provide services regarding health and nutrition.
The programme will be very productive as the Health Department, National Health Mission and Social Welfare Department are collaborating to ensure everyone lives healthily, he added.
A booklet on Village Health, Sanitation & Nutrition Day (VHSND) which includes the schedule for the programme was also released during the function.
Different stalls providing facilities for antenatal health check-up, family planning materials, menstrual hygiene, HIV & Hepatitis testing and others were set up at the site.
Lamlai AC MLA Kh Ibomcha Singh, Social Welfare Director Ng Uttam Singh, Health Director Dr K Rajo Singh and NHM Mission Director Dr Somorjit Ningombam were also present.
