More houses under flood water in Jiribam

Jiribam, May 18 2022:
Even as more than 60 houses in Sorok Atingbi Kamaranga Muslim village remain inundated since May 14, more houses and roads in different parts of Jiribam district have been flooded while prices of essential commodities in the district have soared.
After Kamaranga Muslim village, around 60 houses in neighbouring Lakhipur and Islamabad villages have been flooded while some houses nearby Jiri Keithel area particularly Kalinagar, Champanagar and Ningthembam localities too have been flooded by overflowing water from Jiri River.
People affected by flood have taken shelter at nearby safer locations like club buildings, schools and houses of relatives.
The flood also affected power supply and several villages are without electricity since the past few days.
Meanwhile, Jiribam MLA and local elected leaders are continuing to provide relief materials to the flood affected villagers.
Amidst the flood, prices of essential commodities in the district have risen sharply since the past few' days.
Price of one kilogram of potato has reached Rs 40 now and one kilogram of tomato cost around Rs 160 at Jiri Keithel and other markets of the district.
