Foundation laid for new UNACCO school

Union minister of state for education Dr RK Ranjan on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for construction of a new UNACCO residential school at Chanung village in Imphal East district.
The programme was attended by Dr RK Ranjan as chief guest and UNACCO chairman N Irabanta as president, while works minister Govindas Konthoujam, health & family welfare minister Dr Sapam Ranjan, CAF&PD minister L Susindro Meitei and Khundrakpam MLA Th Lokeshwar were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr RK Ranjan recalled that in the past Manipur used to be an education hub with many students from outside the state coming for studies.
But today, numerous students of the state go to other places for pursuing education, and the reason behind this needs to be introspected, he said.
The union minister also opined that if the state is to promote itself as an education hub, then the public need to support those who have voluntarily joined the education sector and are selflessly working for its development.
Dr Ranjan also asserted that National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 will bring positive changes to the education system in the country, with students getting much benefit from it.
Under the policy, students will receive vocational train ing which will help them in choosing whatever fields they want to make their careers in.
NEP 2020 aims to ensure that the 21st century India becomes a leading nation in knowledge sector in the world.
The policy will facilitate students to get familiar with various languages and cultures, he added.
RK Ranjan also exhorted all for ensuring that the students receive good education so that the future of the state is bright.
The establishment of new UNACCO school will do good for the local students, but the people running the edu cation institute must work sincerely, he mentioned.
