Imphal, May 18 2022:
Indigenous People's Association of Kangleipak (IPAK) has demanded authorities of private hospitals to clarify whether they are engaging government doctors or not within five days with immediate effect.
In a release, IPAK secretary general L Romen Meitei lamented that a kidney patient died after a botched key-hole operation done in a private hospital by a JNIMS doctor on May 14.While raising powers as to how a government doctor was utilised in a private hospital and questioning integrity of the government-salaried doctors, the secretary also asked the Directorate of Health government doctors are given the approval to lend their services in private hospitals as well.
He also pointed out that poor people of the state are facing inconveniences as government doctors seldom attend to duty in the government hospital in time and urged the government doctors not to engage in private hospitals for self-interest.
If government doctors want to work in private hospitals, then they should take retirement from the government hospitals, he suggested.
"Don't occupy the space of young energetic doctors who could sacrifice their service and life for the people", the secretary remarked.
Romen further informed that IPAK has the report of government doctors who are enjoying perks in private hospitals.
Seeking clarification from private hospital authorities about the engagement of government doctors, he cautioned that IPAK along with the people will look into it seriously.
The names of doctors of government hospitals engaging in private hospitals will be made public, he cautioned.
