Imphal, March 15 2023:
Taking serious note of the ever increasing incidents of forest fires reported from different hill areas of the State, PWD and YAS Minister Govindas Konthoujam has stated that the Government is committed to peace, communal harmony and collective development.
He was speaking at the 13th death anniversary of BJP Manipur Pradesh founder president Laimayum Raghumani Sharma at Nagamapal Laimayum Leirak today.
The death anniversary was organised by the Laimayum Raghumani Sharma Charitable Trust.
Born on January 13, 1932 at Nagamapal Laimayum Leirak, Raghumani joined politics under the tutelage of former Rajya Sabha Member Laimayum Lalitamadhav Sharma starting from the days of college education.
He started participating in RSS activities in 1950-51 .
After Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared Emergency in 1975, a large number of political workers were either arrested or detained.
Laimayum Raghu- mani was also imprisoned for two years.
After receiving training from RSS, he became the secretary of RSS Manipur unit.
He became the first president of BJP Manipur unit in 1980 .
Speaking at the gathering, Govindas Konthoujam noted that there is some minor unrest in the State.
Even though different communities have adopted different religions, all should work together to ensure that there is peace and harmony in the State.
Starting massive forest fires in different parts of the hill districts has severely damaged the State's ecology and environment.
One predominant wish of the State Government is creating and sustaining a Manipur where all can live together in peace, he said.
Calling upon all the people to stop starting forest fires, Govindas urged one and all to shoulder due responsibilities in the collective fight against climate change.
Water is life and there is nothing which can replace water, he asserted.
He appealed to all the communities to cultivate a culture of peaceful co-existence.
There is no question of the Government ever targeting any particular commu- nity, the PWD Minister said.
BJP State unit president A Sharda called upon all BJP members/workers to work collectively toward translation of the wishes and aspirations of the party's founder leaders including late Laimayum Raghumani.
She also urged all party workers to work under a strict discipline to ensure that the party goes from strength to strength.
