Jail time for exam cheaters likely: Education Minister

While informing that all preparations for peaceful conduct of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2023 by Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) have been completed; Education Minister Thounaojam Basantakumar has revealed that the state government has discussed formulation of a law to deal with usage of unfair means during examinations including sending accomplices/ helpers to jail.
He made the revelation while speaking as chief guest of an experience sharing programme organised by Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Manipur for students who attended the 'Students' Experience in Inter State Living (SIEL) National Integration Tour-2023', at NIELET, Akampat on Wednesday.
Extending best wishes to the students who will be appearing the HSLC examination set to commence from Thurs -day, Basantakumar said that the Education Department has completed necessary preparations for peaceful conduct of the examination.
To prevent leakage, the question papers will be kept at the police station concerned and opened only under video coverage.
Informing that the govern ment has discussed formulation of a law to deal with unfair means during examinations, the education minister said that an ordinance will be introduced in this regard in the state assembly and passed it as an Act.
Anyone found guilty of assisting in usage of unfair means will be liable for a jail term under the Act, he added.
With regard to the National Integration Tour 2023, Basantakumar said that the exposure tour will allow students to experience the culture, tradition, language and food habits of different and food habits of different states.
He then lauded ABVP for organising the tour, adding that this will help in building up the spirit of togetherness and unity, in addition to encouraging other students to join similar tours.
The programme was also attended by NIELET, Imphal director N Debachandra Singh; ABVP North East zonal organising secretary Kamal Nayan; SIEL Manipur in-charge Deepak Ningomba and ABVP Manipur state secretary RK Rabichandra along with many students.
