KKYSO organises cleanliness drive along Barak river bank

Hundreds of youths and students (class IX & above) participated in a cleanliness drive conducted along the Barak riverside at Khabung Karong section on Wednesday morning.
The drive was organised under the theme "My Barak River" by Khabung Karong Youth and Students' Organization (KKYSO) to raise awareness among the citizens regarding cleanliness and its benefits by prohibiting all types of partying, washing of clothes, littering, fishing and washing of vehicles within the jurisdiction.
KKYSO is doing its best to keep the river clean throughout the year as it is the main source of income for the Khabung Karong villagers and the people the district headquarters solely depend on the river water for consumption.
During the drive, many plastic hottles and other garbage littering the riverside were collected and disposed of.
Addressing the media on the spot, Poumai Naga Students Union (PNTM) president Asahrii Clement, praised the KKYSO for cleaning up the Barak river bank at a time when the district headquarters in reeling under water scarcity.
The PNTM president then called on rest of the citizens and the government to encourage such activities.
Saying that Barak River is the only source of drinking water for the whole district headquarters, the PNTM leader urged the Senapati public to keep the river clean for safe drinking water.
It may be mentioned that water tankers (truck) and Tata pickup trucks deliver water from the river to citizens of Senapati every day from morning till dusk.
More than 200 youths and students, and ICDS workers from Khabung Karong village took part in the cleanliness drive.
