Training programme on "Bamboo and cane handicrafts" concludes

The Guru Shishya Hastshilp Prashikshan, a 50-days training programme on "Bamboo utility handicrafts assembler- cane and bamboo" organised by North East Cane & Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC) and Rongmei Naga Baptist Association (RNBA) for 25 artisans-cum-farmers from Noney Cluster concluded yesterday at Noney.
The training programme was conducted under the aegis of North Eastern Council, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region.
The closing ceremony was graced by Kasaigai Gangmei, chairman Village Authority Longmai; Elangbam Bicomjit Singh; Elangbam Ajit Kumar and Ngasianlungliu Panmei, coordinator RNBA among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Elangbam Bicomjit shared that he started handicraft in his childhood and persisted on with his dream against the wishes of his parents.
"We should make handicraft a hobby and be passionate about it and only then money will follow", he added.
Kasaigai Gangmei urged all to share the knowledge and skills obtained during the training programme to their near and dear ones.
"What we learn here must be taught to others and together we can start businesses in bazaars or in our own houses", he asserted.
The 50-days long training programme included training from award winning resource persons and trainers from the field of handicrafts.
The artisans were trained to make various products from bamboo and cane such as bamboo pen holder, bamboo flower vase, jewellery boxes, bamboo sofa, bamboo shelf, cane baskets, tongs, trays, cane sofa and chair, bamboo pen, hangers, etc.
The artisans were also trained to design and ideate new products independently to be able to generate income for themselves.
