House catches fire, wildfire breaks out

Imphal, March 15 2023:
In separate incidents, a house at Singja-mei Thongam Leikai under Singjamei police station has been partially damaged after it caught fire while outbreak of wildfire has been reported in Imphal East and Tengnoupal districts on Wednesday.
According to preliminary police report, that inferno at Singjamei Thongam Leikai is suspected to have started around 2.20 pm from burning of waste materials close to the house, belonging to one Thounao-jam Tejkumar (70) son of late Chaoba.
A joint team of Singjamei police and Imphal Fire Service rushed to the area and put out the fire using two fire tenders around 3.30 pm.
Meanwhile, another fire broke out at Leimakhong ex-servicemen colony around 9.10 am Wednesday but was prevented from spreading to adjoining structures by a team of Imphal fire service.
A forest fire also broke out around 6.30 am at Heingang Marjing hill and Imphal fire service tamed it thus preventing from further spreading.
Similarly, another fire that broke out at S Mol-jol village under Moreh sub-division Tengnoupal around 3pm on Wednesday was successfully doused by Moreh Fire Service.
S Moljol tillage'thief Lunkhoyang Haokip said that the fire broke out from the hill side where cultivation was done and it started to spread-towards the village.
However, it was put off in time.
The cause of the fire is not known, he continued, while lauding the fire service team for saving the village from a possible disaster.
