Imphal, March 15 2023:
At least 96 students of 10 government schools and nine private schools would not be able to appear in the High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLCE) to be conducted by Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) from Thursday, due to negligence by the respective school authorities, alleged Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) .
Addressing a press meet in this regard at DESAM office, Kwakei-thel, here, on Wednesday, DESAM secretary general Mayengbam Somorjit informed that 38,127 candidates would be appearing in the HSLCE 2023, which will begin from Thursday.
While extending warm wishes to all the candidates and appealing for fair conduct of the examination, the secretary said DESAM is shocked to learn that 96 students of 19 schools would miss the opportunity to appear in the examination.
Taking serious note of the situation, a special team of DESAM looked into the matter and found that the students have no fault but they are the victims of negligence on the part of the heads of the schools concerned, he said.
Somorjit demanded the government to investigate the matter and take up appropriate actions against the headmasters, headmistresses, and principals as well as staff of those schools, who are responsible for form submission of the students for appearing in the examination.
He demanded the government to terminate service of the teachers of government schools and de-recognise the private schools for their negligence.
Maintaining that the 96 students are on the verge of losing an academic year, he enquired what the schools will do for the victim students.
He then urged the government to make special arrangement for the students so that they do not lose an academic year.
The sec retary general also asked the heads of the schools to come to DESAM head office within three days and present detailed reports on the matter.
