Imphal, March 15 2023:
With regard to 96 students being declared ineligible to appear in the ensuing High School Leaving Certificate Examination 2023, the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the State Government to constitute an enquiry committee to launch a probe into the matter.
Mayengbam Somorjit, secretary general, DESAM made the appeal during a press conference held today at their head office located at Kwakeithel Bazar today.
Addressing the media persons, Mayengbam Somorjit stated that the 96 students from 19 schools, including 10 Government schools, have been deemed ineligible to appear in the HSLC Exam slated to begin from March 16 .
Maintaining that the student body takes this matter very seriously, he stated that a specially formed team of DESAM members launched a two-day investigation into the issue.
After conducting a thorough assessment of the situation, the team concluded that the 96 students were not at fault.
As such, he appealed the State Govt to set up an enquiry committee to carry out an investigation on the Principals/Headmasters and officials of the 19 schools which were involved in the form fill-up procedure in connection with the HSLC Exam 2023 .
"Robbing these innocent students of a year of their academic careers is the gravest crime on the part of these school officials", he asserted.
He further said that if the enquiry committee finds that negligence or incompetence on the part of the school officials led to the misfortune that has befallen these students, then the Principals/Headmasters of the ten Government schools should be terminated.
With regards to the private schools, he opined that they should be stripped of their official recognition, if they are found to be at fault.
The DESAM secretary general also suggested that the Government must make special provisions to ensure that the 96 students do not end up wasting a year of their academic lives.
