Medal winners, coach felicitated

Imphal, March 15 2023:
Waikhom Ethoi, who won bronze medal at the 2nd World Jeet Kune-Do Championship 2023 held in Kandy, Sri Lanka from March 10 to 12, was accorded warm welcome by his family members and Beneficial Club Meitram along with local people of his village.
Players from the state won 12 gold and one each silver and bronze medal in the championship, in which India emerged as the runners up.
Ethoi, who had also won a gold medal in a recent national event this year, was received with fanfare at Imphal Airport from where a procession was taken up to his home at Meitram Awang Leikai.
A solemn gathering was held at his home where the local residents showered praises for his achievement.
Meanwhile, Beneficial Club Meitram congratulated Ethoi for his achievement and conveyed best wishes for his future endeavours.
In Thoubal district, Mani-puri players who represented India and secured medals at the Kandy championship, were felicitated in a function held at the Yairipok Bishnunaha residence of MLA K Meghachandra on Wednesday.
The felicitation function organised by reception committee, Yaripok was attended by Keisham Robita Leima, Jeet Kune Do Association of Manipur (JKAM) vice president Loitam Rajen, Yairipok Municipal Council ward no.2 councillor Akoijam Romesh and social worker Thounao-jam Sanjoy as presidium members.
Moirangthem Linthoi, Singamayum Tajbanu and Amarjit Seram, who bagged gold medals in senior women category of the championship and Dr Moirangthem Ibomcha, who was the Indian team coach at the same championship, were felicitated during the function.
While host Sri Lanka clinched championship title, India wrested 15 gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal.
