Free Glaucoma, Cataract screening camp kicks off

As a part of the World Glaucoma Week observation, a 2-day free Glaucoma and Cataract screening camp kicked off today at the State Ophthalmic Cell located at the Medical Directorate Lamphelpat.
The free screening camp which is held on the theme 'The world is bright, save your sight' is being organised by the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI), National Health Mission (NHM) Manipur.
Speaking in connection with the free screening camp, State Nodal Officer NPCB&VI, Dr Vikram Khoisnam said that apart from the free screening of Glaucoma and Cataract, free medicines will be provided, free cataract surgery and free Glaucoma tests will also be done during the camp.
Emphasizing that Glaucoma is a serious medical condition caused by damage in the nerves of eyes, Dr Vikram Khoisnam maintained that the condition often leads to blindness.
In view of the above, World Glaucoma Week is observed to raise awareness among the masses on the importance of early detection and timely treatment of glaucoma, he said.
He further informed that during the camp, free spectacles will be provided to the elderly persons and appealed to all to avail the benefits of the camp.
For today, around 200 patients were screened.
