Imphal, March 15 2023:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has categorically stated that there should no recruitment of group C and D posts in different departments of the government until appointment of chairman and members of the State Staff Selection Commission (SSC) .
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhawan, here, on Wednesday, MPCC spokesperson Rabi khan said the State Staff Selection Commission was constitutued under relevant Act and Rules in 2022 so that recruitment of group C and D posts in different departments of the government could be done through the commission.
However, the state government is keeping the commission functionless and allows departments to act in their own sweet will in recruitment of vacant posts, Rabi Khan alleged and termed the government's act of making the commission functionless very unfortunate.
According to Rabi Khan, the state government passed Manipur State Selection Commission Act in 2022 and gazette notification for the same was issued in September, 2022 with Rules so that the commission could recruit all the group C & D posts.
However, the commission remains functionless as the government is yet to appoint the chairman and members of the commission.
MPCC has been repeatedly asking the government to make functional the commission and MPCC president K Meghachandra even raised a question in this regard during the recently concluded state assembly session.
Instead of allowing the commission to recruit group C and D posts, the government has been allowing different departments like education, fire service, police and others to conduct recruitment exams on their own, Rabi Khan maintained.
He further said that MPCC had even served a legal notice to state chief secretary,on December 20, 2022 asking as to why different departments are being allowed to conduct recruitment exams despite having staff selection commission.
The MPCC notice even suggested that unfair practices including corruption in job recruitment could be prevented if recruitment of different department are done through the staff selection commission, he said, adding that future of the state would be unpredictable if the commission remains functionless for a long time.
While terming as unfortunate of the present government's inaction to suggestions from Congress party, Rabi Khan said that the Congress party too has been serving people despite being in the Opposition and the government should not differentiate between the Ruling and the Opposition particularly in positive suggestions.
He also said that Congress party raised the matter for the welfare of the people and there are many people who fear of raising voices against the government despite being victims of self-styled recruitment processes of different departments.
The present government repeatedly claims it to be a 'double engine' government but fails to implement Act and Rules framed on their own, Rabi Khan alleged.
