Imphal, February 07 2023:
Manipur Cycling Association (MCA) has clarified that it has never sought any kind of donations from ministers, ex-ministers, MLAs, CSOs and general public in connection with tire participation of Manipur cycling teams in the national championships.
In a release, MCA secretary K Sanajaoba Singh stated it has come to the notice of the Association that some individuals who are not its member have sought donations from some ministers, ex-ministers, MLAs, CSOs and other individuals in connection with the participation of state's team in the National Track Cycling and National Road Cycling Championships held in Guwahati, Assam from December 11 to 15, 2022 and January 7 to 10 at Sinner, Nashik, Maharashtra respectively.
It has also been reported that these unauthorised individuals have imposed a subscription of unreasonably big amount to the participating cyclists of Manipur State Cycling Team as participation fees beyond rules, it added.
MCA informed that its Managing Committee held a meeting on February 1 which decided to make a clarification that the existing Managing Committee never sought any kind of donations from anyone, since it took over the charges in June 2022, for participation in the national championships.
The remarkable achievements of the state in the 36th National Games held in Gujarat during September 29 to October 12, 2022 and the 2nd North East Olympic Games in Meghalaya from November 10 to 16, 2022 in which Manipur secured highest number of medals and declared overall champions in both the meets were managed by the Association with the financial support from the Manipur Olympic Association and Department of Youth Affairs and Sports as per existing rules of the Government of Manipur.
The same practice/policy will be followed in the future events when state team is managed by MCA which was established in the year 1972 and registered in the year 1974 bearing number 1476 under the Registrar of Societies, Government of Manipur, producing many champion cyclists in the national and international arenas.
MCA also appealed all to be aware of such facts and not to.
support any unauthorised people who would create problems in the sports organisations in Manipur.
Further, cyclists and their parents who support these unauthorised people other than MCA which is an affiliated unit of Manipur Olympic Association and also recognised by YAS Department, need to be aware of the fact that they may face grave consequences at the time of verification of their achievement /participation certificates by MCA for seeking jobs.
The Association will not verify their documents as genuine one for such cyclists, it maintained.
MCA also conveyed that it is functioning with support from the general public.
As and when it needs further support, MCA will make request with proper documents such as letter head with logo, office seal and proper official receipts.
