Imphal, February 07 2023:
All Manipuri newspapers published in Bengali script will incorporate news and articles in Meetei Mayek in one fourth of their contents with effect from February 15, 2023 .
A decision in this regard was arrived at during a joint meeting of Meetei Mayek Monitoring Committee organised by Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday.
The meeting jointly presided over by All Manipur Working Journalists' Union president Wangkhemcha Shamjai, Editors' Guild Manipur president Khogendra Khomdram and MEELAL leader Khaidem Ingocha Meetei held in depth discussion on issues related to gradual replacement of Manipuri vernacular published in Bengali script by Meetei Mayek.
The meeting later unanimously arrived at a three-point resolution.
In the first resolution, it was agreed that Manipuri newspapers published in Bengali script will provide space for Meetei Mayek in one fourth of their contents from February 15 onwards while the second resolution said that Meetei Mayek Monitoring Committee will mount pressure on the government for making Meetei Mayek a scientific one and compatible in Unicode.
It was also agreed that the Monitoring Committee will hold joint meet every year to make sure that Meetei Mayek (script) is used in all Manipuri newspapers in the state and take collective steps in this regard.
