Importance of oral hygiene stressed

Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh has said that the importance of oral health and hygiene should be inculcated from grassroot level, mainly school going children.
The Minister stated this at the inaugural function of the Refreshers Training for MHS Dental Surgeons held at Hotel Classic Grande today.
The training programme for capacity building of MHS Dental Surgeons was organised under National Oral Health Programme (NOHP), by State Health Society, NHM Manipur.
At the function, the Minister said that the responsibility of dental surgeons is increasing day by day and this reflects the growing concern over oral health.
Expansion of oral health has increased even in terms of cosmetics, he said and expressed concern over the increase in consumption of chewing paan and other tobacco products.
He further stated that the Government will start taking actions against staff of the district hospitals who don't perform their duties and asked the doctors to remain at their place of posting.
Saying that he has seen even newly installed machines at Government hospitals accumulating dust, he urged the Government staff to take care of the State infrastructure and machinery.
Vumlunmang Vualnam, Additional Chief Secretary (Health & Family Welfare), on the other hand, asked the dental staff to put up a signboard which indicates the amount of fee to be paid by patients and other useful informations to ensure better services.
He also appealed to the doctors to build awareness about oral hygiene among the masses.
The inaugural function was also attended by Dr Sasheekumar Mangang, Director of Health Services and Dr Somorjit Ningombam, State Mission Director, SHS Manipur.
Dr Kangjam Gunadhar, Endodontics & MHS Dental Surgeon and Dr Koijam Sashikumar Singh, Associate Professor of Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, Dental College RIMS spoke as resource persons during the technical session of the function.
