Over 200 acres of poppy plantations destroyed in Kamjong district

Large quantities of poppy crops found planted in several villages under Kamjong district were destroyed on Tuesday under the supervision of Kamjong district administration led by DC Rangnamei Rang Peter.
A massive 110 acres of poppy plantations was destroyed in Phungyar sub-division of the district during the drive spearheaded by SDO Rang David with the support of Ukhrul district additional SPs Syed Samad and Syed Samir.
In Thawai village, 70 acres of poppy plantation were decimated by a combined team of personnel of Litan police station led by the OC and Manipur Rifles.
Around 130 volunteers from the village also extended cooperation by joining the anti-poppy drive.
In Marou village, 20 acres of poppy plantations were destroyed by a combined team of Phungyar police station led by its OC and Manipur Rifles personnel whereas in Tangkhul Hungdung village, 19 acres of poppy plantations have been destroyed by the police personnel of Phungyar police station and Kamjong SP office.
On the other hand, more than 25 acres of poppy plantations were scythed at Maokot village of Sahampung sub-division in Kamjong district.
Led by Sahampung SDO Philip John, the destruction was carried out by a combined team of SP Office Kamjong, personnel of Manipur Rifles, NAB, MPTC and Forest (Kamjong) .
The destruction drives were carried out under the state government's 'War on Drugs' mission and Zero Tolerance Policy against Poppy Plantation.
Village chiefs and villagers of the said areas also extended their full support to the district administration in its mission.
