Over hundred acres of poppy plantations destroyed

Imphal/Kamjong, February 07 2023:
The War on Drugs campaign continues as security forces destroyed over a hundred acres of poppy plantations in different parts of the State in a span of 24 hours.
A large tract of poppy plantations was destroyed today at several villages of Kamjong district.
The poppy destruction drive was carried out under the supervision of Kamjong district administration led by Deputy Commissioner Rangnamei Rang Peter.
Around 110 acres of poppy cultivation was destroyed at the Phungyar sub-division of the district.
The drive was led by SDO Phungyar Rang David with the support of Ukhrul Additional SPs Syed Samad and Syed Samir.

At Thawai village, 70 acres of poppy plantation was destroyed by a combined team of Litan police and Manipur Rifles.
Around 130 volunteers from the village also took part in the destruction drive.
20 acres of poppy plantation was also destroyed at Marou village by a combined team of Phungyar police and Manipur Rifles personnel while at Tangkhul Hundung village another 19 acres of poppy plantation was destroyed.
More than 25 acres of poppy plantation was destroyed at Maokot village of Sahampung Sub-Division of Kamjong district Kamjong police Manipur Rifles, NAB, MPTC and Forest (Kamjong) officials.
A combined team of Tengnoupal police and Forest officials destroyed 34 acres of poppy plantation at the hill range of Henjang village with the assistance of Naharol Semgat Sagat Apunba Lup (NASSAL) Thoubal, today.
It is reported that village chiefs and villagers of the areas targeted today extended full support to the district administration of Kamjong in destroying poppies.
Meanwhile, another 43 acres of poppy plantation was destroyed in Ukhrul and Tengnoupal districts yesterday.
While 15 acres of poppy plantation was destroyed at Mapithel hill range under Litan police station, another 28 acres was destroyed at Henjang Village, yesterday.
A number of village chiefs have also been held earlier.
