Minister Govindas hails sportspersons, artistes

District Olympics Association, Bishnupur felicitated players, who won medals in the recently concluded 36th National Games and 2nd State Olympic Games, in a function held at Kiyamba Ningshing Shanglen, Bishnupur on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Govindas Konthoujam hailed the sporting prowess and rich art and culture of the state while encouraging emerging players and artistes to put their best efforts to excel in their respective fields.
The minister also informed that the government will soon construct a badminton hall for the district.
He also said that several development projects will come up in the state under Prime Minister's Development Initiative for North East (DevINE) Scheme.
He also stressed the need for having adequate sports fund in order to improve sports infrastructure and groom talents.
Altogether 245 medal winning players were felicitated in the function which was attended by Moirang MLA Th Shanti as president and LDA chairman M Asnikumar, DC Bishnupur L Bikram and DYASO Bishnupur Y Ibeyaima as guests of honour.
Meanwhile, North Eastern Sporting Association (NESA), Nongpok Sekmai under Heirok assembly constituency in Thoubal district felicitated meritorious students of Class X and XII examinations and players during the prize distribution ceremony of the annual sports meet 2022 held at the club's playground on Sunday.
Heirok MLA Th Radheshyam and Nongpok Sekmai Khul Committee president Y Dhananjoy attended the event as chief guest and president respectively while BJP Heirok Mandal president Th Chourajit, Thoubal ZP up-adhyaksha T Nungshi, Lourembam GP pradhan nominee Sanakhomba, Shikhong Sekmai MC former chairperson Sinam Roma, ward No 3 former councillor A Chandramani and former vice-chairperson Y Indrajit were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Radheshyam stressed the importance of giving equal focus on education, sports, art and culture.
He also expressed concern over the emerging trend of parents not advising their children against participating in dice games (Lagao) and urged local clubs and Meira Paibi organisations to take up necessary initiatives to prevent such irresponsible and morally degrading activities.
He also hailed the sporting talents in Heirok AC while citing example of Keisham Melody, who represented India in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup and several national players in different disciplines, and stressed the need for promoting such talents.
Indian footballer Keisham Melody, medal winners of National Karate Championship, meritorious students of class X and XI examinations as well as winners of annual sports meet 2022 were felicitated at the event by presenting mementos, citations and stoles.
