Imphal, October 23 2022:
Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) launched a drive to check price hike of commodities, sale of expired and adulterated foods in market places in view of the upcoming festivals.
A team of PPCM volunteers led by convener Maibam Bishembor launched the drive on Saturday and inspected grocery shops operating in Dharmashala area of Thangal bazar.
The team appealed to shop owners not to cheat customers and to sell their products with strict adherence of ethical trade practice.
Despite repeated appeals to show price list and issue cash memo to customers, some shops in the area were found issuing cash memo on simple paper instead of issuing real cash memo while some of the same products were found sold at different prices by some shops.
This shows that prices of goods are fixed by businessmen at their own sweet will, a PPCM statement said and asked if authorities concerned are unable to control prices of goods in the state.
It also said that repeated attempts by PPCM to meet Price Fixation Committee members remain futile.
