Bishnupur, October 23 2022:
In continuation of its ongoing protest movement for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list as a form of constitutional safeguard for the community; representatives of Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM) stormed the residence of Education minister and Nambol AC MLA Thounaojam Basantakumar on Sunday and submitted a memorandum.
In his response to the protest movement of STDCM, minister Thounaojam Basantakumar said that demand made by STDCM is justified and is in the interest of future generations.
He then extended his support to the demand and assured of holding talk with CM N Biren on what positive steps could be taken up in the matter.
According to STDCM Women's Wing convenor RK Tharaksana, the movement to protect the indigenous community has been going on for more than a decade now.
As such, she urged the ruling government to address the demand of the committee, while cautioning of launching more intense agitations in case of failing to do so.
