Imphal, October 23 2022:
The Directorate of AYUSH and State AYUSH Society jointly celebrated 7th Ayurveda Day at MEIPA Hall, Imphal Palace Compound.
At the observance, AYUSH Director Dr A Guneshwor Sharma said the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India had started observing Ayurveda Day in 2016 with the aim to promote the science of Ayurveda on a global scale.
Ayurveda Day is observed on October 23 celebrating the birth anniversary of Lord Dhanwantari, the Hindu God of medicine and physician of Gods.
The day is being observed this year under the theme "Har Din Har Ghar Ayurveda" .
While promoting Ayurveda, people should reap the benefits of the medicine.
The Ayurvedic way of healing is unique and it uses medicinal herbs and plants found in nature.
Besides cutting the cost of treatment, this type of healing also lasts long, he said.
Further, a single system or principle of treatment can't cover all kinds of illness and as such there is a need to practice other systems of treatment.
In China, students pursuing MBBS are also taught the traditional system of healing compulsorily.
Likewise, in India AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) is an integrated approach, he said.
Since the beginning of civilization, humans have faced many illnesses and worked out a number of systems of treatment.
At present, noncommunicable diseases and cardiovascular diseases are most common in Manipur.
It is perceived that lifestyle and eating habits are the causes of these diseases.
The AYUSH systems of healing and Ayurveda can be of immense help in treating these diseases, Dr A Guneshwor said.
He also advocated for strengthening the AYUSH system of treatment and urged doctors to promote Ayurveda among the people to give them maximum benefits.
Marking the observance, dignitaries and people present paid floral tributes to an idol of Lord Dhanwantari.
AYUSH Director Dr A Guneshwor Sharma, State AYUSH Society Member Secretary Dr M Shyamjai, National Health Mission State Nodal Officer AYUSH Dr K Benedict Maring and Secretariat Health and Family Welfare AYUSH Section Officer M Nandakumar attended the observance as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
