The Tribal Rights Protection Committee (TRPC), Tengnoupal & Chandel Districts has informed that a general body meeting was held on October 20 at Community Hall, Kotlenphai village in regard to the notice served by the SDO/SDM Kakching on October 6, 2022 to remove the signboards indicating districts upon various villages & establishments.
In a release, TRPC informed that the villages & establishments included VM High School, H Wajang village; Holy Angel Clinical Laboratory, Pallel Bazar; The Manager/Proprietor, M/s BD Gas Agency, Japhou Bazar; Molnoi Area Kalem Uve, Zion village; Centre Church Molnoi Area; Office of the Lamkang Naga Baptist Association; Office of the Molnoi Area Welfare Council; Molnoi village; JC Live Kitchen, Molnoi; and H Kotlenphai village.
The meeting also deliberated on the claims made by Kakching AC MLA, M Rameshwar Singh that Koijam, Khangshim, Heikakpokpi, Nungourok, Salemram, Kanemram and Unapal have been traditionally & historically under Kakching Sub-division.
The Committee informed that as per Manipur Gazette dated November 12, 1969, Unapal village was placed under Chandel Sub-division of the erstwhile Manipur Central District.
"In partial modification of the same gazette, another order was issued on May 11, 1974, still placing Unapal village under Chandel", it added.
Claiming that all the other establishments were recognised either under Chandel or Tengnoupal districts, TRPC, Tengnoupal & Chandel further clarified that the villages and establishments were/are never under Kakching Sub-division.
