Imphal, October 23 2022:
Reacting to the notice served by SDO/SDM, Kakching for removal of signboards indicating the district of some villages and establishments and claim of Kakching MLA that certain villages are under Kakching sub-division, Tribal Rights Protection Committee, Chandel and Tengnoupal Districts, Manipur (TRPC, Cdl & Tpl) has dismissed as baseless the claims made by the SDO/SDM and the MLA.
In a release, TRPC, information secretary Thelphomran Khaling said that a general body meeting was held on October 20 at Kotlenphai village community hall to discuss the notice served by the SDO/SDM, Kakching on 6 October, 2022 for removal signboards indicating districts in respect of villages and establishments namely VM High School, H Wajang village, PO Pallel, Tengnoupal district; Holy Angel Clinical Laboratory, Pallel Bazar; The Manager/Proprietor M/s BD Gas Agency Japhou Bazar; Molnoi Area Kalem Uve, Zion village (signboard); Centre Church Molnol Area; Office of the Lamkang Naga Baptist Association; Office of the Molnol Area Welfare Council (MAWC) signboard; Molnoi Village (signboard); JC Live Kitchen, Molnoi; and H Kotlenphai Village (signboard).
It also discussed the claim made by Kakching MLA M Rameshwar Singh in his letter addressed to the chief minister that Koijam, Khangshim, Heikakpokpi, Nungourok, Salemram, Kanemram and Unapal villages have been traditionally and historically under Kakching sub-division.
Mentioning certain facts against the claims of the SDO/SDM and the MLA, Thelphomran Khaling pointed out that as per Manipur Gazette (No.20/39/69 D dated 12 November, 1969), Unapal village was placed under Chandel Sub-Division of the erstwhile Manipur Central District.
In partial modification of the same gazette, another order vide was issued on 11 May, 1974 and still placed Unapal under Chandel district.
On the other hand, Khangshim village was recognised as a separate Hill House Tax paying village by the Tengnoupal Deputy Commissioner on December 16, 1974.Likewise, all the other establishments were recognised either under Chandel or Tengnoupal districts.
So, the claims of SDO/SDM, Kakching and the MLA that the said establishments were/are under Kakching Sub-Division are baseless, the secretary contended.
While asserting the said villages and establishments were/are never under Kakching Sub-Division, the meeting also adopted a resolution to oppose and fight until the notice and the claim are withdrawn, he conveyed.
