Protest staged against liquor legalisation

Demanding the revocation of State Cabinet's decision to legalise liquor, a sit-in protest was staged at Mantak Village Community Hall today.
The protest was staged by people of Mantak village as part of the ongoing democratic protest organised by Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) in association with Nupi Samaj and Thoubal Ima.
At the protest, CADA president, Hijam Priyokumar; Nupi Samaj general secretary, P Sobita and Mantak village chief, K Cheiraojao Kom highlighted the ill effects of liquor and urged all to support the fight against the legalisation of liquor.
A villager of Mantak, K Radha Kom stated that the women folk of Mantak are against the Cabinet's decision to legalise liquor in the State.

Alleging that liquor legalisation will lead to an increase in crimes against women and children, K Radha urged the State Government to reconsider its decision.
She further mentioned that the women folk of Mantak village will support Nupi Samaj, Thoubal Ima and CADA in its fight against the legalisation of liquor.
Placards with slogans such as "Revoke Cabinet decision to legalise liquor", "Save the lives of people", "Is it right to campaign War On Drugs by legalising liquor ?", etc were used at the protest.
