Imphal, October 23 2022:
Almost all grocery shops in Dharmasala, Thangal Keithel have been found not following the prescribed rules of selling goods, said the Protection and Preservation Committee, Manipur (PPCM) .
In a statement, PPCM said its volunteers had conducted an inspection at Dharmasala, Thangal Keithel yesterday.
During the inspection, PPCM volunteers found most of the grocery shops selling goods without providing genuine receipts (cash memo) of their sales to customers.
In addition, some grocery shops were found selling the same products at different prices.
When asked about the price difference, they claimed transport charge was the reason, said PPCM.
PPCM said most of the grocery shops are selling goods on prices they set rather than following the prices fixed by the competent authorities of the Govt.In addition, some shops were also found not displaying the list of prices of goods meant for customers.
By law shops have to put on display the list of prices of goods to ensure fair sale, said PPCM asking if the Government is not able to control the prices of the goods it fixes.
The PPCM has for some time been trying to meet the authorities of the prize fixation committee and agents who are supplying the goods without success.
As a result of this and also due to lack of Government's intervention, the shops in the bazar are setting the prices to suit themselves, it said.
Urging the Government and its competent authorities to inspect and control the prices of goods, PPCM said people should be aware of the fair practices that should be followed when selling and buying goods.
When buying goods, people must ensure that they are getting both the quantity and the quality right.
Shops must also use authorised scales for weight and measurement and sell their goods as per the prices fixed by the Government, it said.
Stating it would further continue its drive, PPCM urged authorities concerned for support.
