State joins World Thrift Day observance

As elsewhere in the world, 'World Thrift Day' was observed by Directorate of Small Savings in association with Manipur Government Services Federation (MGSF), Manipur State Pensioners' Union and Department of Posts, Manipur Division at Pensioner's Shanglen, Pishumthong, here, on Sunday.
During the observance function, an account open ing camp for National Saving Scheme (NSS), Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) was also organised.
Speaking as chief guest of the event, Small Savings director Rojendrakar Nongthomba cautioned that some illegal private banks have been manipulating innocent people into investing their hard-earned money with promise of high returns.
Most of these people lack investment awareness and believe whatever these illegal banks promise, thereby leading to loss of their investments, he said and noted that left with no option the duped investors resort to staging protests demanding the government to look into the matter and help address their suffering, While urging the people to have investment awareness, the director stressed on the need for the people to cultivate the habit of saving or investing under government schemes.
He also conducted a power point presentation explaining about different aspects of small savings.
Presided over by MGSF president Dr M Rajendro, the observance function was also attended by Postal Services superintendent L Tiken; Bank Employees' Federation of India, Manipur Branch president Soram Bijoy; MGSF general secretary Purujit Lairikyengbam; MGSF legal advisor L Dijwamani; and MGSF advisors SA Halim and Th John as guests of honour.
