Kanglei Theatre to stage 'Cheitheng' in Germany

Imphal, October 30 2022:
Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory will be staging its play, 'Cheitheng' at the 37th International Pantomime Theatre Festival, which will be held in Germany from November 2 to 6 .
According to a statement released by Repertory director Dr Yumnam Sadananda, the Manipuri troupe will be representing India at the festival and the 15 -member group led by the director will be leaving Imphal for Germany on November 1 .
The play, 'Cheitheng' is based on one of the subplots of Ramayana epic, centred around the character of Shravan Kumar, the ideal son of blind parents who was mistaken as a deer and killed by future Ayodhya king Dasharatha.
Shravan's parents could not bear his death and cursed Dasharatha to suffer the same grief of losing a son.
The statement further in formed that the Repertory had previously performed the play in South Korea and Greece, with the show in Germany going to be their third performance aboard.
The Repertory then appealed to the people to extend their support to the troupe in this regard.
The 37th International Pantomime Theatre Festival will also be participated by cultural troupes from other countries like France, Spain, Czech Republic and the host country, Germany.
