Sand transporter injured in knife attack

Imphal, October 30 2022:
A 24-year old working as sand truck driver was attacked with knife after an order was placed to bring sand to Mayang Imphal Bengoon on October 26 .
The victim identified as Milan Khawas, son of Manikumar Khawas of Chuchekhop Irang-1, Kangpokpi district, sustained injuries in the attack.
Taking serious note of the attack, a press conference was organised by Manipur Drivers' Association, All Manipur Gorkha Drivers & Owners' Association, Senapati District Truck Drivers' Union, All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union and All Manipur Gorkha Welfare Union at Manipur Press Club here on Sunday.
Speaking to the media, Manipur Drivers' Association assistant secretary Khundongbam Sangitcharan informed that driver Milan Khawas, who went to despatch the sand load at Mayang Imphal Bengoon with some labourers was attacked by unknown miscreant(s) with a knife around 7 pm on October 26.He sustained injuries on his neck and has admitted in RIMS ENT ward.
The secretary denounced the vicious act of attacking a person with deadly weapon after calling to drop sand through mobile phone.
A complaint has been registered at Mayang Imphal police station, he informed, while demanding authorities concerned to arrest the miscreants and take appropriate actions against them.
All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers' Union also strongly denounced the attack and life attempt on Milan Khawas and cautioned of launching protest if the miscreants were not arrested without any further delay by the police.
Speaking to media persons, general secretary of the Union Maimom Anil informed that the driver Milan was held captive by unknown miscreants by calling to unload sand and was attacked with a knife.
He was later left for dead at a market shed in Mayang Imphal Bengoon, the secretary conveyed, while informing that such attack on the driver is an attack on the entire the drivers' community and against the society.
Drawing the attention of chief minister N Bifen to look into the matter, Anil cautioned that the drivers' community will launch intense protest if authorities concerned remain silent and fail to arrest the culprits.
Meanwhile, members of the union visited RIMS hospital to check the conditions of injured Milan and also extended monetary help to him on Sunday.
