World Thrift Day 2022 observed

As celebrated across the globe, "World Thrift Day, 2022" was also celebrated today at the conference hall of Manipur State Pensioners' Union Shanglen, Pishumthong, Imphal.
The function was jointly organised by the Directorate of Small Savings, Manipur; Manipur Government Services Federation, Manipur State Pensioners' Union in collaboration with the Department of Posts, Manipur Division, a statement has informed.
The function was attended by Director, Small Savings, Manipur, Rojendrakar Nongthomba, MFS as chief guest; Dr M Rajendra Singh, president, Manipur Government Services Federation (MGSF) as the president; L .
Tiken Singh, Superintendent of Postal Services; Soram Bijoy Singh, president, Bank Employees Federation of India, Manipur Branch; Purujit Lairikyengbam, general secretary, MGSF; L Dwijamani Singh, legal advisor, MGSF; SA Halim, advisor, MGSF and Th John Singh, advisor, MGSF as the guests of honour respectively, the statement added.

Speaking as the chief guest, Rajendrakar said that due to lack of investment awareness, people are easily lured by high interest rates offered by some unregulated private banks and investing their hard earned money in such banks often leads to loss of their invested money.
He also said that such incidents cause distress to investors who often resort to 'dharnas' and other forms of agitations urging the Government to intervene in the matter, he added.
He also appealed to the people to form the habit of saving and investing in different schemes of the Government considering their needs.
As part of the celebration, account opening of National Savings Schemes, Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) were also held besides a powerpoint presentation on small savings by Director Small Savings, Manipur highlighting its different aspects.
