The All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers Union has appealed the Government and authorities concerned to arrest persons involved in the murder attempt of a driver recently at Mayang Imphal area.
A 24-year-old truck driver identified as Milan K was attacked near a market area at Bengoon at Mayang Imphal on the night of October 26 .
While on his way from Dimapur to deliver sand at Mayang Imphal, unknown assailants had attacked him and slit his throat with a sharp object and left him to die.
His condition is critical and is now receiving treatment at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital, said Maimom Anil, general secretary of the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers Union.
Milan K hails from Kangpokpi and he was staying at Thangmeiband Polem Leikai.
Stating that the union condemns the unfortunate and gruesome incident in the strongest terms, Anil said drivers who are working day and night bringing goods for people should be protected and respected.
Appealing to Chief Minister N Biren Singh to look into the incident and take up appropriate measures to avoid such incidents in future, Anil said all miscreants involved in the incident should be arrested and punished.
In case the unknown assailants are not arrested and punished at the earliest, the union may launch stringent agitations, he said.
Members of the union have extended financial assistance for Milan's treatment at RIMS.
