Imphal, July 05 2022:
Terming Bhartiya Kishan Sangh, Manipur Prant's sit-in protest staged in front of the office of the directorate of agriculture on Tuesday and the allegation of discrepancies in distribution of urea to farmers as unfortunate, Agriculture director N Gojendro has appealed to the public to inform the department if they find any discrepancies on the matter.
Speaking to some reporters on Tuesday, Gojendro welcomed any protest or appeal from the public or any organisation regarding distribution of urea to farmers but any attempt to mislead the public and tarnishing the image of the department is unacceptable.
Even though there were issues in distribution of urea in the past years, this time, the depart-ment stored adequate quantity of fertilisers in its storehouses and has been distributing to genuine farmers irrespective of having land holding documents or not, he maintained.
While informing that the department has not provided any fertiliser to MLAs, the director, however, conceded that there is involvement of MLAs along with farmers' groups in ensuring proper and swift distribution of urea to farmers.
Agriculture minister Th Biswajit had also given assurance of sorting out any issues concerning urea distribution, he pointed out and suggested that Bhartiya Kishan Sangh, Manipur Prant point out the MLAs who it is alleging are not following fair practice in the distribution.
Instead of resorting to protests, the Sangh is advised to provide relevant information so that the department could take up necessary measures to ensure fair practice.
The government has been organising farmers meet and interaction programmes for the first time in the state to understand their issues and find out solutions, he said and appealed to farmers, who are facing difficulties in getting their share of urea, to approach the department so as to resolve their issues.
