Imphal, July 05 2022:
A discourse on 'disturbance free education zone' organised by Coordinating Committee on Disturbance Free Educational Zone Demand on Tuesday at JN Manipur Dance Academy auditorium adopted five resolutions, including intensification of the movement for promoting cordial atmosphere around educational institutions and education sector.
The other resolutions are joint efforts in taking up initiatives, exerting pressure and collective responsibilities to ensure right system of education; exerting pressure to increase the budget for education; demand to provide adequate infrastructures and teachers to ensure students of government schools avail proper education; and urge every section of the society to stop huge monetary demand and quotas during admission to private schools.
Speaking at the meeting as one of the presidium members, Dhanamanjuri University VC Prof N Rajmuhon highlighted that the power of a land was previously based on several factors, but it has been changed to knowledge and information as is evident from contemporary world centred on knowledge, development of human resource and providing quality education.
Pointing out that education encompassing human value, moral value and spiritual value is called 'quality education', he maintained that education is the only means for bringing modernisation and civilisation.
As ideas and knowledge can only bring change and not with bombs and weapons, proper education should be guaranteed to the young generations, the vice chancellor stated.
While wondering how the state will prepare for NEP 2020 and Act East Policy, the VC further highlighted the need for focusing on education using new technologies so as to bring change in Manipur.
Manipur University of Culture vice chancellor Prof Paonam Gunindro, who also addressed the gathering, reminded that education is a backbone of the society.
That Manipur had a flourishing education system could be comprehended from the fact that it even had its own script.
However, using the script of others, which is very rare in history of the world, reversed the course of development, he maintained and urged all to join hands so that no hindrances recur.
Stressing the need to make the students aware about the Manipur and instil discipline, Gunindro pointed out that it is included in NEP 2020.While lauding the movement launched by the Committee for Disturbance free education zone since 2008, he observed that the students might have raised the demand for free education zone as they are fed up with the hindrances given in the education sector.
The discourse was also attended by Committee chairman and AMCTA president M Lokendro, AMSGO secretary Sougrakpam Sumati, UAR-SOM president Laishram Joy Khuman, AMRPSWA president Doren Khanganba, AMTEI president Narengbam Rajivkumar, COTA convener Laishram Jugindro, AMSSTA president Maibam Kennedy, ATSUM president Paotinthang Lupheng, AIMS general secretary Nickerson and DESAM VP Longjam Robin as presidium members.
