Governor La Ganesan and Director General of Assam Rifles Lieutenant General PC Nair, YSM, AVSM visited the Assam Rifles Multispeciality Hospital at Headquarters IGAR (South), Mantripukhri and enquired about the conditions of landslide survivors undergoing treatment there.
The Governor interacted with all the seven injured personnel of 107 Territorial Army, expressed solidarity with them and prayed for their speedy recovery.
Later, La Ganesan attended the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Haflong Hall of IGAR (South) complex between Assam Rifles, Axis Bank and NEIDO for setting up of Assam Rifles Centre of Educational Excellence at Kangvai, Churachandpur.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that the catastrophic landslide at Tupul, Noney which killed several Army personnel, construction workers and civilians was a shocking incident.

"They dedicated their lives for the Nation and we are with the bereaved families," he added.
On setting up of the centre, La Ganesan said that Assam Rifles preparing to establish Centre of Educational Excellence at Churachandpur is a good initiative as it will provide a safe environment for the students to study under the mentorship of Assam Rifles and NEIDO.
He further stated that the centre will help build confidence among the students who are planning to appear for IIT-JEE and NEET examinations.
The Governor also said that Assam Rifles with their outreach programme will take the initiative to aspiring students from rural and semi rural areas who don't have access to good higher education.
The youth of Manipur have shown their brilliance and performed outstandingly in sports and arts and with this initiative they will have access to good professional education and make the country proud, he added.
Lieutenant General PC Nair, YSM, AVSM said that their objective is to reach out to the people in remotest parts of the North East with goodwill initiatives.
He said that the youth in the region have ample talent and it needs to be streamlined so that they can contribute to Nation building.
Similar centres will also be opened in Arunachal Pradesh and Silchar in the coming months, he added.
The MoU was signed by Brigadier Ashish Ranjan, VSM, Commander of 27 Sector Assam Rifles, Rudrapriya Ray, Head of Corporate Affairs, Axis Bank and Dr Rohit Srivastava, CEO, NEIDO.
Earlier, the Governor was accorded a warm welcome by Major General Rajan Sharawat, VSM.
