Senapati, July 05 2022:
NHIDCL and its contractor LEKCON, which is executing the four-lane road project along National Highway-2, faced public backlash over poor maintenance of the ongoing highway expansion work.
Following complaints of delaying examinations, schedules and travelling engagements due to poor maintenance of the road expansion work, state police personnel were deployed to manage traffic movement.
In this regard, SP Senapati Karthik Malladi had also written to NHIDCL general manager, Senapati division on June 27 for installing proper road safety signage, traffic regulation signboards and deployment of flaggers at work sites.
A similar letter is also likely to be sent to Kangpokpi district ad ministration, requesting to intervene on the issue which has become more vocal with each passing day.
In response to the public outcry, NHIDCL on Tuesday issued an order assigning officials for monitoring and maintaining the road stretch between T Khullen and Mayangkhang.
Considering heavy traffic and incessant rainfall, NHIDCL assigned 15 officials for 24x7 maintenance of the road stretch.
The NHIDCL's response came after many expressed their resentment on social media on negligence of work agency towards resolving the muddy, sinking and hazardous road condition even after two months of inconveniences faced by travellers and drivers.
Long queue of stranded vehicles to navigate through the 1km stretch has been a regular affair as loaded trucks and private vehicles are either stuck due to mechanical break-down.
Many took to social media especially Face-book and WhatsApp groups tagging CM N Biren, CM office, NHIDCL and others to vent out their resentment over poor maintenance and prolong delay in resolving the issue.
Meanwhile, NPO Grievances Cell members met NHIDCL deputy general manager on Tuesday and highlighted inconvenience faced by travellers along the road stretch.
The NPO team reportedly suggested a separate route for light vehicles and heavy vehicles along the route to avoid further inconveniences.
Later, the team warned that any eventuality occurred due to such inconveniences should solely be the responsibility of NHIDCL.
