MU authority advised to send reminder to centre

Union minister of state for education Dr Subhas Sarkar has said that he advised authority of Manipur University to send a reminder to the Union education ministry regarding establishment of a new campus of the university.
Presenting report about his four-day state visit during a press conference held at BJP Manipur Pradesh office, also known as Thambal Shanglen, here on Tuesday, Subhas Sarkar said that he had interacted with students and faculty members of Manipur University (MU) during his visit.
MU, being a university having enough students, needs more hostels and infrastructures but the university is facing problem as there is no space for expansion or development of additional infrastructure.
Accordingly, MU authority sent a letter to the university and higher education ministry some months back for establishing a new campus of the university.
The matter was discussed during interaction with students and MU faculties and advised MU authority to send a reminder to the Union ministry so that talks regarding demands of the university could be initiated with central leaders, he said.
According to Subhas Sarkar, he had a review meeting with regard to implementation of central schemes in Thoubal district on Monday and also met state health minister to discuss about health sector.
During the meeting with the health minister, instruction was given for installing ultrasound machine at every district hospital of the state, he said, adding that he also discussed about the need for improvement in health and education sectors by meeting the chief minister and ministers concerned.
Subhas Sarkar also said that chief minister N Biren Singh's 'Go to hill' and 'Go to village' programmes are very encouraging and these programmes will enable villagers living in far flung areas to avail benefits of government schemes and projects.
He further said that infrastructure of government schools needs to be augmented and special attention in this regard given.
The press conference was also attended by Wabagai MLA Usham Deben and BJP Manipur Pradesh media in-charge Ch Chidananda.
