Discourse on uses of medicinal plants held

Imphal, July 05 2022:
Department of Biotechnology of Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), under the ministry of Science and Technology, organised a brainstorming and discussion on "Metabolic disorder and uses of medicinal plants of NER" at IBSD Imphal on Tuesday.
The event was conducted as part of "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" celebration under the leadership of IBSD director Prof Pulok K Mukherjee with the involvement of renowned scientists and experts in the held of metabolic disorder.
During the programme, Prof Pulok highlighted various research initiatives taken by IBSD in the field of metabolic disorders to explore the rich bioresource of NER while Biotechnology Department scientist Dr Nuoo Srivastava deliberated on various aspects on research and development of botanicals to inspire the young researchers to pursue their research work.
The gathering was also addressed by All India Institute of Medical Sciences professor Dr Ravinder Goswami on different unmet needs for metabolic disorders with special emphasis on diabetes and its clinical complications.
North East Institute of Science and Technology Jorhat, Assam scientist Dr Jatin Kalita emphasised on research ethics and its importance for pursuing research career as Ayurvedic practitioner from New Delhi Dr Pushkar Dev spoke on different complications and treatment procedure to treat and manage diabetes and kidney stones.
Speaking at the programme, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education Research Guwahati associate professor Dr Sanjay K Banerjee pointed out several crucial and contemporary issues on exploration of natural products in cardio-metabolic disorders.
He also exhorted the young researchers to collaborate for strengthening their translational research outcomes.
Translational Health Sciences and Technology Institute, Faridabad senior scientist Dr Ajay Kumar delivered a lecture on different phenotypic models for drug development in metabolic disorders and CSIR-NEIST Jorhat Dr Prasenjit Manna on application of plant based traditional medicine for the treatment of metabolic disorders.
Other scientists namely Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh professor Dr Tulika Goswami, NBRI Lucknow former scientist Dr AKS Rawat and SCTIMST, Trivandrum associate professor Dr Jeemon Panniyammakal also spoke on different aspects on drug discovery and development by exploring plant bioresources of NER in metabolic disorders.
The programme was attended by more than 150 participants.
