Kids to receive free PCV at Govt health centres

As part of the Universal Immunisation Programme, the state launched a free administration campaign of Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) to prevent Pneumococcal Pneumonia/ Meningitis among children at all government health care centres on Monday.
Speaking as chief guest of the launch function organised by State Health Society, National Health Mission (NHM) and Directorate of Family Welfare Services at the conference hall of the Directorate, State Health Society (NHM) mission director N Shyamjai informed that pneumococcal pneumonia/ meningitis is a serious disease among children under 5 years of age, with 1 out 6 children dying from the disease.
Many private hospitals provide the Pneumococcal vaccine but at high rates, which majority of the parents cannot afford.
As such, the disease remains hard to control.
However, as part of the Universal Immunisation Programme to provide the vaccine for free at government health centres, the state will begin administering the vaccine at all government hospitals, CHCs, PHCs, etc.
The first dose of the vaccine is to be given to children at 1.5 months old, the second dose at 3.5 months old and the booster at 9 months old, he informed.
The launch event was also attended by Family Welfare Services joint director and state immunisation officer Dr T Manihar as president and Family Welfare Services director Dr Paozachiin Guite as guest of honour.
CHURACHANDPUR: A pneumococcal vaccination programme was launched during a function organised by District Family Welfare Officer (DFWO), Churachandpur on Monday at KKL Complex.
The launch event for administering Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) to children was attended by DC Churachandpur Pawan Yadav, CMO Dr VC Pau and joint director Family Welfare Dr Kimngaiching as chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.
During his speech, DC Pawan Yadav pointed out that there are many cases of children suffering from pneumonia and to prevent that all children below one year should receive the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine.
He further said that the fight against COVID-19 and pneumonia is going on and asked all healthcare workers to be sincere while attending to children.
The Churachandpur DC informed that more than 130 oxygen cylinders and oxygen concentrators are now available at the district hospital which will help fight the coronavirus.
He added that COVID vaccines are safe and appealed to all to respond appropriately if they experience COVID-like symptoms so as to ensure timely and early treatment.
In another development, Manipur Petroleum Products Business Forum donated 200 surgical face masks, nine pieces of PPE and two 5-litre bottles of hand sanitizer and 800 pieces of disposable rubber hand gloves to CMO district hospital Dr VC Pau.
The donations were made in support of the Chief Minister's COVID-19 Relief Fund 2021 .
Earlier, Churachandpur DC Pawan Yadav had donated 20 oxygen concentrators to the CMO.
The DC has so far donated Oxygen 15 Oxygen cylinders, 39 oxygen concentrators and three BiPAPs.
