The Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East has remanded Oliver Moirangthem (27) of Khurai Lamlong Bazar, an associate of Kangujam Karnajit, to police custody for another 4 days.
He was arrested by Porompat police on June 3 for allegedly committing fraudulent activities in the name of the International Youth Committee.
Oliver Moirangthem , s/o Jilangamba of Khurai Lamlong Bazar was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East virtually along with the prayer for further 6 more days police custody remand for investigation of the case, he was involved in.
The defence counsel of the accused, on the other hand, prayed for releasing the accused on bail.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that the complainant of the case, one Prajesh Khanal Deuma, a young Nepalese student, sent a letter to the Excellency Ambassador, Embassy of India regarding the fraud and breach of trust by an Indian NGOon February 26 .
The letter was also forwarded to the Ministry of External Affair (Northern Division), DGP Manipur and Porompat police station.
Saying that the accused admitted the charges levelled against him and had done a money transaction with K Karnajit, self acclaimed chairman of International Youth Committee, the IO prayed for further remand of Oliver to police custody for investigation of the case.
The Court on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of IO,remanded Oliver to police custody till June 10 .
It is said that the remand objection filed by the defence counsel will likely be heard on the next date.
