Imphal, June 07 2021:
At a time when Covid related restrictions have brought activities to a screeching halt, road traffic congestion of almost pre-Covid pandemic level were seen in certain areas of Imphal city today.
The sudden congestion of traffic coincided with the momentary road diversion at places such as Konung Mamang Traffic Island, Moirangkhom, Keishampat and Khuyathong due to holding of an interfaith prayer session in front of Kangla.
Incidentally, the momentary closure of roads in certain locations also coincided with the number of pharmacists and shopkeepers coming out for Covid testing and vaccination following a Government order which made it mandatory for pharmacists and shop keepers to have a Covid negative report.

This was apart from those permitted by the Government to resume duties.
It may be mentioned that COVID-19 negative test report has been made mandatory for all pharmacies, workshops and other categories of shops which have been approved for opening during restricted schedules and time periods within Imphal West district from June 8 onwards by the Government.
On seeing the sudden congestion of traffic, a section of the population even started asking whether the curfew which has been extended till June 11 has been lifted.
This reporter, on-field survey, also witnessed the number of people coming for Covid testing at mass testing booths and private centres increasing sharply, today.
